Health classes explained
Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard—their meanings and what determines your place.
Underwriters organize term pricing into health tiers. Labels differ slightly, but the rungs are: Preferred Plus (sometimes Super Preferred or Best Preferred), Preferred, Standard Plus, and Standard, then step-ups for above-standard hazard. Smokers and nicotine users have a separate ladder at steeper rates.
What underwriters look at
Height and weight relative to your age, blood pressure and lipid panel, family heart or cancer before sixty, accident record, current prescriptions, job and leisure activities, and nicotine in any form. The top rating demands squeaky-clean numbers across the board; Preferred permits modest gaps; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed situations like controlled high blood pressure.
How to use the quote tool
Your health response corresponds directly: Excellent lines up with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus, and Average with Standard. Your quote reflects that tier; the carrier validates your actual tier after underwriting. Torn between tiers? Quote both, compare, and let the underwriting settle it. Picking a rosier class won't reduce your final bill; it just makes your estimate less precise.
Susman Insurance Agency helps weigh carriers with policies friendlier to your health profile—sometimes a bigger factor than the base rate.
