No-exam life insurance
Who gets fast-tracked underwriting, the process, and what you face without it.
Nowadays many insurers provide fast underwriting: for those within age and amount parameters, they assess you using the application, medications on file, driving history and other databases rather than a medical exam. Approval can arrive the same day. Each quote here notes whether an exam is required, might be required, or isn't required for that plan.
What it changes
No exam doesn't mean no review. Your answers go through verification, and an issued policy from incorrect answers can be challenged in year one and year two. The carrier may still demand an exam or tests if its checks surface questions; you're free to step back then.
Who tends to qualify
Generally folks under about 60 seeking amounts within the carrier's accelerated cap, with no significant medical history and no tobacco use in the prior year or more. Some carriers OK recent doctor visits with bloodwork in place of an exam.
An exam, if needed, is typically 20 to 30 minutes with a paramedic at your house or workplace in the San Jose area, no charge to you. Results can upgrade a rating for healthy applicants, so an exam isn't always harmful.
